"BBC TV presenter James May gears up for another challenge in Devon"

TOP GEAR'S James May will be returning to North Devon for another model train stunt on the Tarka Trail.

The engineer and presenter was in North Devon on Friday looking at locations for a one-off BBC show which will be filmed in April.

The BBC is being tight-lipped about what the show will entail, but once again it will involve the Barnstaple to Bideford Tarka Trail and model trains.

In August 2009 the TV presenter came to North Devon in a bid to build the longest-ever model railway track.

After almost 12 hours of setbacks, the train ended three miles short of its targeted destination after torrential rain and vandalism to the 10 mile track built by 400 volunteers.

During his visit on Friday, Year 10 drama students at Pilton Community College got a surprise from the star.

Lyn Friend from the school said May was checking out possible filming locations for the future.

She said: "The caretaker showed him around the school and he signed the library's Top Gear book.

"The children were quite excited about it on Friday."

Amanda McCormack of Barnstaple saw May at the town's train station.

She said she was coincidentally looking at a copy of the James May Toy Stories book at the town's station when she spotted him.

She said: "My daughter said 'that man looked like James May' and then we heard his very distinctive voice.

"I approached him and had a chat with him. He was very sweet and happy to chat."

She said he told her he was planning another stunt on the Tarka Trail and this time he would be racing two trains from both the Barnstaple and Bideford ends of the line to the middle.

The BBC confirmed May was in North Devon in preparation for filming in April.
